Prices for live pigs and pork closed August on a high note, according to surveys by Cepea. According to the Research Center, in the independent live animal market, the typical increase in demand at the beginning of the month helped boost prices. In the second half of August, demand remained strong, and prices did not fall as they traditionally do. As a result, the monthly averages for live hog prices in almost all markets monitored by Cepea rose compared to July. As for pork, researchers explain that demand was also quite high in August, leading to increases in prices for most pork products during the period.
